United Airlines parent UAL Corp. said its fourth-quarter loss widened to $1.47 billion, reflecting growing costs that pushed the company to seek bankruptcy protection in December.
The net loss was $20.70 a share, more than the loss of $308 million, or $5.68, in the same period in 2001. The airline said it expected a significant loss in the current quarter.
UAL shares fell 5 cents to $1.02 on the New York Stock Exchange.
