Diamondback Streak Is Over

DENVER — The Arizona Diamondbacks’ 12-game winning streak ended Tuesday night, with Ronnie Belliard hitting a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning that sent the Colorado Rockies to a 7-4 victory.

The Rockies hit four homers in ending Arizona’s team-record winning string. It was the best streak in the majors since the Oakland Athletics won 20 in a row last Aug. 13 to Sept. 4.

Preston Wilson hit a two-run homer and Larry Walker and Jay Payton had solo shots for Colorado, which erased a 4-0 deficit.

Belliard’s solo homer put the Rockies ahead, 5-4. In the eighth, Belliard had a bunt single that drove in another run.

Javier Lopez (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the win.

The Rockies used three pitchers in the ninth. Brian Fuentes struck out Luis Gonzalez -- who homered twice and had five runs batted in Monday night -- with two on and one out.

Justin Speier then struck out pinch-hitter Robby Hammock to end it, getting his second save.

Andrew Good (3-2) went 6 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits and five runs, including all four Colorado homers.

Steve Finley’s two-run homer helped the Diamondbacks jump out to their early lead.

Colorado’s Denny Stark, making his season debut after being sidelined three months because of a torn muscle in his pitching shoulder, went 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs.
