Residents and city leaders gathered Tuesday night at East Palo Alto City Hall to celebrate the city’s 20th anniversary of incorporation.
Formerly unincorporated San Mateo County land, East Palo Alto became a city on July 1, 1983, after residents won an election and a series of court challenges that reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
The event kicked off a six-month celebration that will include screenings of films about the city and a September outdoor festival.
