10,000 March in Protest Against President Toledo

At least 10,000 trade unionists and striking teachers marched in Lima, Peru’s capital, in defiance of a state of emergency, denouncing President Alejandro Toledo.
Hundreds of helmeted riot police watched as protesters marched 18 blocks from Dos de Mayo Plaza to Congress. There was no violence and no sign of soldiers, though the state of emergency puts the military in charge of keeping order and bans such marches.
