About 150 workers were evacuated Tuesday from businesses near an industrial plant after crews discovered traces of a chemical believed to be explosive.
The Orange County sheriff’s bomb squad was summoned about 3:15 p.m. to the plant in the 5100 block of East La Palma Avenue and destroyed the material.
Investigators later identified it as crystallized picric acid, which is used in the making of dyes and explosives believed to have been left at the site by the plant’s previous owners.
