No tour for Philly conductor

Wolfgang Sawallisch, who is completing the final season in his 10-year tenure as music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra, has withdrawn from the orchestra’s Tour of the Americas May 12-June 1.
Sawallisch, 79, does not feel well enough to undertake what was supposed to have been an ambitious farewell tour, with 13 concerts in nine cities in five countries: the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The orchestra will instead be led by Russian-born conductor Yakov Kreizberg. On the tour schedule: Cerritos Center, May 17.
