63 Killed, 23 Missing in Coal Mine Explosion

An explosion tore through a coal mine in eastern China, killing 63 miners and leaving 23 missing, the official New China News Agency reported.
The gas explosion struck the Luling mine near the city of Hefei in Anhui and 27 of the 113 people in the mine at the time were rescued, the agency said. The cause of the blast was under investigation, the agency said.
About 7,000 people died in Chinese mine accidents last year.
