Rathbun Pleads Not Guilty in Serial Rapes

Mark Wayne Rathbun, accused of being the Belmont Shore serial rapist, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Long Beach Superior Court to 64 counts involving attacks on women over six years.
Rathbun, 33, waived his right to a speedy trial so a court-appointed expert would have sufficient time to review DNA evidence that has been analyzed by three crime labs, Deputy Dist. Atty. Rich Goul said.
A pretrial hearing was set for July 15, but the trial is not expected to begin until October, Goul said.
