A recently discharged soldier was arrested over the weekend in Oceanside, Calif., for allegedly killing another soldier in Georgia, police said.
Alberto Martinez, 23, was apprehended at 4:15 a.m. Saturday after a police stakeout of his home, Oceanside police spokeswoman Karen McDonough said Monday.
Martinez is one of four Army soldiers accused of beating and stabbing Richard Davis, 25, during a fight at a Columbus, Ga., nightclub, Columbus Police Lt. Steve Cox said.
Davis was a Ft. Benning soldier in the same unit as Martinez and the other suspects, Cox said. The other three have been arrested.
The killing occurred in July, but Davis’ body was recovered only recently. On Friday, Columbus police informed Oceanside authorities that Martinez would be at his home, McDonough said.
