A tanker truck jackknifed and overturned early Sunday in South Los Angeles, toppling two power poles, shearing off a fire hydrant and washing about 1,700 gallons of gasoline into a storm drain, authorities said.
Power to area residents and businesses was knocked out for several hours.
The tanker driver, who was not injured, told investigators he had been trying to make a U-turn when the accident occurred at Figueroa Street and Rosecrans Avenue.
