U.N. Says Uranium May Have Come From Iraq

A small amount of natural uranium found in a scrap metal shipment in the Netherlands may have come from Iraq, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog said.
International Atomic Energy Agency spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said the material posed no health hazard. Diplomats said the IAEA would investigate its precise origins, and Fleming said there was “a good possibility it came from Iraq.”
A metal container from Jordan holding 5 1/2 pounds of slightly processed uranium was found this week in Rotterdam. Its radioactivity was very low and it could not be used in “dirty bombs” or nuclear weapons, authorities said.
