Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa rode the Gold Line to work Thursday, kicking off his “Ride With the Mayor” campaign to encourage the use of mass transit.
The Mount Washington resident and chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board has vowed to expand the transit system.
The mayor said fares on buses and rail lines are a bargain compared with prices of gas. For $3, he said, ticket-holders can ride all day “without the hassle of fighting traffic, finding parking or filling up their tanks with high-priced gasoline.”
