Israel’s only Olympic gold medal was returned to windsurfer Gal Fridman after a girl found it in a forest not far from where it was stolen.
The 11-year-old found the medal among pine needles and brought it to her parents, her father, Jamil Baria, told a television station.
A safe containing the gold medal Fridman won last year in Athens and a bronze medal he won during the Atlanta Games of 1996 was stolen Tuesday from his parents’ home in the northern town of Karkur. The girl found the safe near the town of Fureidis.
Fridman’s bronze medal was not recovered.
