Toddler’s Death Is Investigated

Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives said Sunday that they are investigating whether a toddler who died at a Long Beach hospital was a murder victim.
Sheriff’s officials said they suspect that the 20-month-old boy, who died Saturday night at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, was the victim of foul play before he was hospitalized.
The county coroner’s office identified the toddler as Jose Arellano of Long Beach. An autopsy will be conducted today or Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
Sheriff’s officials did not disclose what the boy was being treated for or how long he had been hospitalized.
