Mother Pleads Guilty, Mentally Ill to Murders

A mother who told police she beat her two sons to death so they could go to heaven pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murder.
In return for the plea, prosecutors in Crown Point agreed not to seek the death penalty or life without parole for Magdalena Lopez.
Police responding to a 911 call in July found Antonio, 9, and Erik, 2, dead at the family’s home. They had been bludgeoned with a 10-pound weight.
