UC Irvine will begin a nationwide search for the law school’s founding dean now that the University of California regents have approved the addition to the campus.
As expected, the regents Thursday approved UCI’s proposal to open a 600-student law school.
“We are extremely pleased,” UCI Chancellor Michael Drake said following the vote. Drake said the search would begin immediately.
UCI hopes to enroll its first class of aspiring attorneys in 2009, funding the program through tuition and private donations.
