at Minnesota 2, Kansas City 1: Jason Bartlett’s single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning at Minneapolis put the Twins in a tie for first in the Central Division with Detroit. Detroit holds the tiebreaker over the Twins by winning the season series, 11-8. The Tigers play host to the Royals in their final three games and the Twins are home for three against the Chicago White Sox.
Toronto 8, at Detroit 6: Kenny Rogers (17-7), the Tigers’ likely starter in their first playoff game, was roughed up by the Blue Jays, who built a seven-run lead then held off the Tigers.
at Cleveland 5, Tampa Bay 4: Ryan Garko doubled home the go-ahead run during a three-run seventh inning for the Indians. Paul Byrd (10-9) won for the first time in five starts.
