Italian town puts price on pounds

Overweight residents of the town of Varallo in northwestern Italy will be paid to lose weight, the mayor said.
Men will receive $70 for losing nine pounds in a month, Mayor Gianluca Buonanno said. Women will get the same amount for shedding seven pounds.
If they can keep the weight off for five months, they will get an additional $280, he said.
