Suspect in 2 deaths to be extradited

A Los Angeles man wanted in the October 2005 slayings of his mother-in-law and brother-in-law and the shooting of his estranged wife will be returned to Los Angeles on Friday by the FBI, authorities said.

Fraydun Ahmad Kordian, 51, has been in custody in Turkey on a murder warrant since shortly after the crime in the Jefferson Park area.

According to the FBI and Los Angeles police, Kordian fled to Mexico after allegedly lying in wait for his estranged wife, Rosalia, and then shooting her as well as her mother, Zenaida Barragan, and brother, Fernando Lomeli.

His wife survived, but Barragan and Lomeli died in the shootings at Barragan’s home.

Mexican authorities notified the Los Angeles Police Department that Kordian, an Iraqi national, had flown to Istanbul. He was arrested at the Istanbul airport by Interpol two days after the killings.

Earlier this month, the Turkish government announced that it was ready to extradite Kordian to the U.S. after his efforts to fight extradition were unsuccessful, according to the FBI.

At the time of his arrest, authorities said Kordian had a history of domestic violence and had a restraining order placed on him by his wife just weeks before the shooting.
