Stranded whaling ship on even keel

A Japanese whaling ship stranded in Antarctic waters was on an even keel after pumps cleared water used to douse the fire that crippled it, a New Zealand government official said.
A missing crewman was reportedly found dead. Officials and environmentalists are concerned that the Nisshin Maru, carrying tens of thousands of gallons of oil, could threaten Antarctic penguins.
