Supervisors to appeal $2.4-million verdict

County supervisors voted in closed session Tuesday to appeal a $2.4-million verdict for the family of a man fatally shot by sheriff’s deputies during a struggle over a gun.
A jury originally awarded Robert Mitchell’s relatives $3.2 million in connection with his death in 2002 in Palmdale. A federal court judge later reduced the award.
