Taliban says it will open own schools

The Taliban said it would open its own schools in areas under its control in southern Afghanistan, in an apparent effort to win support among local residents and undermine the Western-backed government.
The Taliban destroyed 200 schools and killed 20 teachers last year and has driven 200,000 children from the classroom, said the Afghan government, which called the announcement “putting salt in the wound.”
