* Chicago 11, at Cleveland 10: Paul Konerko hit a three-run homer, highlighting Chicago’s nine-run sixth inning, but the White Sox barely held off the Indians. Konerko’s 19th homer, against reliever Fernando Cabrera, was one of five extra-base hits in the sixth -- Chicago’s highest-scoring inning of 2007 -- that helped the White Sox open an 11-2 lead.

* at New York 6, Toronto 4: Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer, and the Yankees got another big hit from Andy Phillips. Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano also connected against Josh Towers (4-6) for the resurgent Yankees, who have won nine of 12 overall and four of five since the All-Star break.

* at Seattle 4, Baltimore 2: Ichiro Suzuki had two hits, Horacio Ramirez was strong in his return from the disabled list and Yuniesky Betancourt hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to give the Mariners a two-run lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

* Texas 4, at Oakland 1: Jerry Hairston and Marlon Byrd hit two-run doubles and Jamey Wright pitched seven scoreless innings to hand the Athletics their eighth loss in a row. Sammy Sosa scored two runs for the last-place Rangers, who moved to within 3 1/2 games of the third-place A’s in the West.

* at Boston 4, Kansas City 0: The Red Sox got solo homers from Dustin Pedroia and Manny Ramirez in the fourth and a two-run shot by David Ortiz in the sixth to back rookie Kason Gabbard’s shutout.
