Many sex offenders breaking residency law

As many as 2,100 newly paroled sex offenders are living illegally near schools and parks, based on the tough residency requirements passed by California voters last fall, the state corrections secretary said Wednesday.
The department will give the parolees 45 days to find new homes, which could spark renewed conflicts throughout the state as they seek to obey the law, which prohibits registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of schools or parks.
