30 are killed, gunship hit in Mogadishu

Insurgents shot down an Ethiopian helicopter gunship during the heaviest fighting the Somalian capital, Mogadishu, has seen since the early 1990s.
By official count 30 people have been killed since Thursday, but residents said hundreds were believed dead. Bodies lay uncollected in the streets.
Somalian government troops and their Ethiopian allies are trying to quash an increasingly lethal insurgency linked to the Islamic Courts Union, which was ousted in December.
