Teacher charged in molestation of student

A 36-year-old junior high school teacher was arrested Thursday on suspicion of molesting a 14-year-old female student, authorities said.
Daniel Axtell of Santa Ana, a teacher at Talbert Middle School, has been charged with committing lewd acts on a child and sexually assaulting her with a foreign object. The alleged incidents occurred at hotels and in his vehicle over a two-month period in 2005.
Axtell, being held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, is scheduled for arraignment today. If convicted he could face up to eight years in state prison, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office said.
