* Seattle 9, at Kansas City 1: Kenji Johjima hit his first major league grand slam, Richie Sexson hit a three-run shot, and Cha Seung Baek dominated the Royals. He gave up five hits and an unearned run in seven-plus innings and the only runner to get past second did so on an error. He threw 98 pitches and 74 were strikes.
* Toronto 9, at Minnesota 8 (13 innings): Lyle Overbay drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out, two-strike single in the top of the 13th. Michael Cuddyer had five RBIs for the Twins, including a two-run single in the ninth to tie the score at 7-7.
* Boston 7, at Texas 4: Manny Ramirez had four hits and keyed a five-run sixth inning with an RBI triple at Arlington to help the Red Sox rally past the team with the worst record in the American League.
* at Baltimore 8, Oakland 3: Rookie Brian Burres, pitching with 10 days rest, yielded one run and three hits in six innings to earn his second major league win.
* Cleveland 6, at Detroit 3: David Dellucci’s tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning helped C.C. Sabathia join the Angels’ John Lackey and Boston’s Daisuke Matsuzaka and Josh Beckett as the league’s only seven-game winners.
* Tampa Bay at Chicago, ppd. rain: The game was rescheduled for Aug. 27 at U.S. Cellular Field.
* Angels 3, at New York 1: The Angels, who had a 3-0 lead after one inning, have outscored opponents, 52-19, in the first inning this season.
