Baltimore 3, at Seattle 2: Nick Markakis struck out twice looking early but tied the score with a groundout and then hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning to make the Orioles’ Daniel Cabrera (2-0) a winner. Cabrera gave up five hits and two runs in eight innings. He struck out five and retired his final 11 batters.

New York 6, at Chicago 4: Mike Mussina (2-3) moved ahead of Bob Gibson into 42nd on the wins list (252) for the Yankees. Jorge Posada had four hits, including a career-high three doubles, and drove in two runs. Mussina gave up two runs and four hits while striking out three and walking one in a season-high seven innings.

at Tampa Bay 5, Toronto 3: Jason Hammel (2-1) gave up four hits in six innings and Evan Longoria drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single to help the Rays rally against Roy Halladay (2-3). Halladay pitched his third straight complete game, giving up five runs and nine hits in eight innings

at Oakland 3, Minnesota 0: Mike Sweeney returned to the starting lineup for the first time in six games and ended a 39-game homerless streak spanning 140 at-bats with a solo shot in the eighth inning. He also had a run-scoring single and scored Oakland’s first run.

Cleveland at Kansas City, ppd, rain: The game will be made up today as the first of a doubleheader.

at Detroit 19, Texas 6: The Tigers scored 11 of their 19 runs in the sixth inning, their biggest since 2004.

Angels 6, at Boston 4: David Ortiz hit a tying homer, but the Red Sox’s six-game winning streak ended.
