L.A.’s Sunset Junction is set to dawn; ‘Gossip’ talk

It’s getting hot. Must be time to talk about: Sunset Junction 2008. On this year’s bill: Broken Social Scene, the Black Keys, Cold War Kids and Kinky. Yessir, I’m bringing lots of sunblock this year. (Saturday)

One can never talk enough about: “Gossip Girl.” The second season is almost here -- Sept. 1, write it down -- but until then, I’ll indulge in some Season 1 marathons on DVD. The new ad campaign of choice criticisms -- “Every parent’s worst nightmare,” says the Boston Herald; “A nasty piece of work,” says the New York Post -- is simply inspired. (Tuesday)

So it’s not an Apatow movie -- no reason not to talk about: “The Rocker.” We know Rainn Wilson isn’t playing “The Office’s” Dwight, our favorite beets, bears and “Battlestar Galactica” devotee. But in this “School of Rock”-style romp, he’s playing something close: a too-passionate drummer who joins his nephew’s group after his own band tosses him. (Wednesday)

Santa’s coming early this year. Let’s talk about: “Camp Rock: Extended Rock Star Edition” and “Best of Both Worlds Concert: The 3-D Movie” on DVD. After watching “Camp Rock” star Demi Lovato cut loose on “GMA” -- she wails, in a good way -- I added her to my list of non-guilty ‘tween pleasures. Under the same heading: Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Rolling Stone agrees: The magazine called Miley’s tunes “sophisticated pop” and dubbed the Jonas Brothers performance “fantastic.” (Tuesday)

Corona and lime really don’t make much of a pairing, but if you enjoy it go ahead and talk about: “Shwayze.” The self-described “only black kid in Malibu” has a chart-climber in “Corona and Lime,” a hit MTV reality show in “Buzzin’ ” and this week, a self-titled album. MTV’s foisted worse on us. (Tuesday)
