How we’ll see Prop. 8 battle

Re “An ugly defense of gay rights,” Opinion, Dec. 2

Particularly insufferable is Jonah Goldberg’s suggestion that gay marriage is “likely inevitable.” How big of him. As if Proposition 8 supporters are struggling mightily against a treacherous amoral tide that is being driven by Hollywood liberals and gay-rights groups, and he has come to see the futility in fighting the current.

What is really inevitable is that Goldberg and Proposition 8 supporters will sound as embarrassing to future generations as 19th century anti-abolitionists who once might have written “Emancipation won’t be nearly the disaster many of my fellow Southerners fear it will be” would sound to us.
