Southern California, your inner Nanook of the North is calling. Frolic in the powdery white stuff this winter by taking a weekend guided snowshoe tour sponsored by the Big Bear Discovery Center in Fawnskin. All equipment is provided, says tour leader Stacy Gorin, who piles eager snowshoers into a van to find off-road trails. “We’ve got gorgeous scenery and clean air,” she boasts. “People are surprised how active the forest can be.” Beginners will get a quick snowshoeing tutorial including walking with a wide stance, avoiding face-plants and mastering a duck waddle uphill. (Wide stance? Don’t get us started . . . ) 1-4 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m.-noon Sun. through March. $35 adults, $25 kids 8-16. Tours depend on snowfall. (800) 424-4232; www.bigbear.com
