MONSTERS OF THE MASH-UP
Nearly every DJ in town plays mash-ups (unlikely marriages of disparate songs from different genres) these days, but only one club specializes in nothing but mash-ups. Bootie LA, the local outpost of the San Francisco-based monthly party, recently celebrated its second anniversary and is headed back to the Echo this weekend after nearly a year at Safari Sam’s. “We didn’t realize how much of an Eastside crowd we had,” says Bootie LA co-founder Adrian Roberts (pictured with partner Mysterious D). “It’s kind of like when an ex-girlfriend takes you back.” The monthly party hosts multiple DJs and picks a loose theme each month. Saturday’s? Blondie mashed up with Missy Elliott. What’s next, Tchaikovsky versus T-Pain? We can dream. 9:30 p.m. Sat., the Echo. $5 before 10:30; $10 after. (213) 413-8200
