ORANGE BOWL
Who: Kansas (11-1, second Big 12 North) vs. Virginia Tech (11-2, Atlantic Coast Conference champion)
Where, when: At Miami, 5 p.m., Ch. 11
Story line: Virginia Tech, attempting to reach the 12-victory mark for the first time, finished the regular season ranked No. 1 by the Bowl Championship Series computers and has an argument for playing in the national title game. The Hokies defense ranks in the top five in the nation in total defense and their offense came on strong with 30 or more points in each of its last four games. Kansas is in a bowl game for only the third time since 1995 and is making its BCS bowl game debut. The Jayhawks are balanced, ranking No. 2 in scoring at 44.2 points a game and No. 4 in scoring defense at 16 points a game. The knock against them is their schedule. Their opponents were a combined 65-85 and they went through the Big 12 without playing Oklahoma, Texas or Texas Tech.
Top players: Todd Reesing (QB, Kansas, Jr.), Brandon McAnderson (RB, Kansas, Sr.), Branden Ore (RB, Virginia Tech, Jr.), Chris Ellis (DL, Virginia Tech, Sr.).
