Losing Larchmont

Re “Larchmont loses another landmark,” Jan. 1

As neighbors of Larchmont Boulevard, my husband and I have watched the erosion of a charming street with many different businesses (many owned by small-business owners) into the usual bland corporate chains and overpriced boutiques. The steady rent increases by the greedy landlords have tossed out many worthy businesses because they didn’t have huge corporate parents or a business that could support passing on the costs to consumers. There’s no point in complaining. Except for the occasional interruption of a revolution, the greedy and powerful will continue to destroy or absorb all before them to acquire more wealth and power. What’s happening on Larchmont is happening all over our city.
