Burst pipe floods campus buildings

A flood Monday in the steam tunnels that run beneath UC Riverside has caused electrical outages and flooded basements in a number of campus buildings, school officials said.
A water line burst in the steam tunnels around 1 p.m., flooding the buildings and cutting off power. At least three people were trapped in an elevator for 30 minutes, said Al Diaz, vice chancellor of administration.
The flow of water has been stopped, but repairs are expected to take some time. Some buildings have been closed temporarily. Updates are available at www.campusstatus.ucr.edu
