at Oakland 6, Boston 3: Ending Jon Lester’s hope for another no-hitter right away, Jack Hannahan hit a leadoff single and later drove in two runs and Jack Cust hit a two-run homer as the Athletics completed a three-game sweep. Lester (3-3), who no-hit Kansas City last Monday, gave up seven hits and four runs over five innings.
at New York 6, Seattle 5: Jose Molina hit a two-out run-scoring double to cap a four-run eighth inning, and the Yankees rallied for their fifth straight win. The Yankees won consecutive series for the first time this season; the Mariners have lost six games in a row.
Texas 2, at Cleveland 1: Right fielder Ben Francisco misplayed a simple single by Ramon Vazquez into a costly error in the 10th, enabling Jarrod Saltalamacchia to score from first base with the winning run. Saltalamacchia scored easily and Vazquez reached third.
at Toronto 3, Royals 1: Shannon Stewart drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice, Dustin McGowan (3-4) won for the first time in four starts and the Royals lost their seventh straight game. McGowan matched a season high by striking out seven and walked none.
Minnesota 6, at Detroit 1: Jason Kubel hit a tiebreaking grand slam with two out in the eighth inning and Glen Perkins (2-1) shut down the Tigers by giving up one run and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings.
at Tampa Bay 5, Baltimore 4: Evan Longoria drove in the winning run with a double in the ninth inning, giving the Rays a three-game sweep of the Orioles.
at Chicago 3, Angels 2: Carlos Quentin hit his second homer of the game to lead off the bottom of the ninth.
