A man was in custody after a 4 1/2-hour standoff with Riverside Police Department officers early Wednesday.
Authorities said the incident began when Bobby Clint Pankratz, 49, allegedly threatened his landlord with a knife about 5 a.m. The landlord, who rents a small trailer behind his house to Pankratz, called police. Pankratz retreated to his trailer and refused to come out until 10:45 a.m., police said. They used pepper gas to persuade him to surrender.
Police said they found a knife inside the trailer and took Pankratz to the Riverside County Emergency Treatment Services facility for evaluation before booking him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
