Today: Louisiana State (40-20) vs. UC Irvine (37-19), 2 p.m.; UCLA (43-13) vs. Kent State (39-23), 6 p.m; Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Monday (if necessary), 6 p.m.
Top players: UC Irvine: Daniel Bibona, pitcher, (9-2, 2.10 ERA). Gerrit Cole, pitcher, (9-2, 3.27 ERA). Kent State: Anthony Gallas, outfield, (.367, 17 HR 81 RBI). LSU: Micah Gibbs, catcher, (.392, 9 HR 55 RBI).
Notes: Ranaudo, projected as a first-round pick in Monday’s Major League Baseball draft, was 12-3 in 2009, but was slowed this season by an elbow injury. … UCLA has played 13 teams that made the tournament and has a 19-11 record in those games.
