Apple announces 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

Apple has added another machine to its line of Retina high-resolution display products, announcing the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina.
At an event Tuesday morning, the Cupertino, Calif., tech company unveiled the new Retina laptop.
The machine is just three-quarters of an inch thick and weighs 3.75 pounds. It features a 13.3-inch screen with 2,560 by 1,600 pixels. That’s more than 4 million pixels, more than many high-definition televisions.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of marketing, said the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina features two Thunderbolt ports, two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI out and an SD card slot. It uses Apple’s new MagSafe 2 charger.
The computer runs on Ivy Bridge processors, has 7 hours of battery life and 8 GB of RAM. It, however, does not include an optical drive.
The new laptop’s base model uses a 2.5GHz processor and 128 GB of storage. It starts at $1,699.
Apple said there was also another version of the computer with more storage that costs $1,999.
Schiller said the new computer started shipping Tuesday.
