New Cubs ace Jon Lester finds his spot in Chicago

Jon Lester, the Chicago Cubs’ $155-million man, has settled into his new surroundings in style, buying a home near Wrigley Field for $3.777 million.

Set behind a wrought iron gate, the limestone-clad residence is highlighted by a free-flowing floor plan with hardwood floors, delicate molding and wall treatments within 7,000 square feet. Among its features is a chef’s kitchen, a gym, a wood-paneled study/media room and a penthouse-level den with another bar.

The master suite, one of five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, is outfitted with a soaking tub and a custom dressing room. An elevator services the home’s three levels.

Outdoors, a bluestone terrace and a pair of decks invite entertaining. Elsewhere is a four-car garage.

Jennifer Ames of Coldwell Banker was the listing agent. Chris Wegren of Century 21 Kreuser & Seiler represented the buyer in the sale, which was first reported by Crain’s Chicago Business.

Lester, one of the more coveted arms on the free agent market this off-season, signed a six-year pact with the Cubs in December that will pay him an average of $25.8 million a year. The 31-year-old pitcher compiled a 16-11 record with an earned run average of 2.46 in 32 starts for the Red Sox and A’s last season.
