Broadway and movie star Idina Menzel will perform the national anthem at Super Bowl XLIX, the actress announced Friday.
Menzel, best known for her roles as Elphaba in the musical “Wicked” and the voice of Elsa in Disney’s “Frozen,” said one of her fondest memories of the game was Whitney Houston performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the 1991 Super Bowl.
“Almost as glorious as her voice was her huge radiant smile,” Menzel said on Twitter. “I am so humbled and honored to be asked this year.”
Houston’s rendition is considered to be one of the best performances of the song at the Super Bowl.
