California park closures
The state will cease operations at five parks as of Sunday, though the beaches will remain accessible:
Benicia State Recreation Area (Bay Area)
California Mining and Mineral Museum (Mariposa)
Gray Whale Cove State Beach (San Mateo coast, north of Montara)
Zmudowski State Beach (north of Monterey)
Providence Mountains State Recreation Area (eastern Mojave); already closed, will remain so.
Seventy parks were initially proposed for closure because of state budget constraints.
40 of those will remain open, with alternate funding.
25 will remain open while funding is negotiated.
