20,000 homes evacuated in San Diego County fire

(Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times)San Diego County ordered the evacuation of 20,000 homes Tuesday as a fast-moving wildfire race through the North County.
The Bernardo fire southwest of Rancho Bernardo has burned more than 700 acres and is 5% contained, according to San Diego County officials.
The county said in a statement that most of the evacuated homes were in the city of San Diego but some were in unincorporated areas.
According to KSWB-TV Channel 5 in San Diego, the fire broke out at 10:40 a.m. near Del Norte High School. Firefighters were mounting an aggressive fight using hand crews and air support.
A small brush fire also erupted in Diamond Bar off the 57 Freeway. Firefighters put out the blaze but traffic in the area was jammed. Firefighter also put out a blaze off the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne.
