Readers React: Don’t let the 1% control schools

Bruce Reed, the president of the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation who formerly served in the Obama administration and will focus on education, told Patt Morrison: “My general experience with political elected bodies is that the odds of them being thoughtful and well informed are never very good.” (“The Broad Foundation’s Bruce Reed on education reform, teachers and charters,” Opinion, May 13)
Well, does that mean we should just sit back and let members of the 1% like billionaire Eli Broad make all the decisions?
Governance of our public schools rightly belongs to taxpaying citizens, and I’m betting they won’t be turning over this job to the oligarchs any time soon.
