Readers React: Cannes is no D-Day
Your article starts out: “Seventy years ago next month, the Americans made a historic landing in France. They’re at it again.” (“American actors and directors projected to shine at Cannes,” May 18)
I appreciate seeing an arts story on the front page. But please, do not equate U.S. actors and directors with the 156,000 Allied troops (73,000 of them from the U.S.) who landed in Normandy on D-day. Cannes’ celebrities, red carpets and awards can’t possibly be compared to the troops, beaches and losses on that day in World War II.
