Readers React: DWP reforms needs to accompany higher utility rates

To the editor: Hats off to Los Angeles City Council President Pro-Tem Mitch Englander and Councilman Gil Cedillo for casting dissenting votes on the proposed Department of Water and Power rate increase. (“L.A. City Council grants preliminary approval to DWP’s rate hike,” March 2)
My councilman, Paul Krekorian, unfortunately sided with the corrupt and out of control utility that continues to run this city, where the majority of elected officials are afraid to stand up to it.
One of Mayor Eric Garcetti’s campaign promises was to deal with the excessive spending and poor management of the city. We also have a ratepayer advocate, which has to be among the best jobs in the city.
And to show for all that, we have a DWP rate increase.
