Readers React: Let Rep. Tlaib be profane in her fight against Trump’s bullying

To the editor: It is surprising to see how Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) has been criticized for being vulgar.
What sort of responses are appropriate in the face of a president who consistently delivers profane, vulgar, bigoted and non-unifying messages? Should we all maintain decorum while the president lashes out against people with disabilities, Mexicans, Africans Americans or anyone else?
It is ignoring the state of our country to express shock at where we might be headed with the new slate of people just sent to Washington. Ever since Donald Trump was elected, the rules for how public figures express themselves have been challenged.
We should applaud voices that stand up to the bully in Washington. And unfortunately, if we continue to stick to the old rules of engagement, we might not have a civic discourse at all.
