Four Newport-Mesa players have been named second-team All-CIF
Southern Section in their respective boys and girls divisions by the
Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association.
Newport Harbor High senior Nedim Pajevic was recognized in
Division II-AA, after leading the Sailors’ boys team to a 16-10
record. The 6-foot-9 center, who shared Player of the Year honors in
the Sea View League, averaged 15.7 points and just more than 13
rebounds for the Tars.
Sage Hill School senior Michael Fitzhugh, who, like Pajevic, will
represent the South in Saturday’s Orange County boys all-star game at
Orange Coast College, is a Division IV-A honoree. The 6-3 point guard
averaged 22.3 points and 10.1 rebounds for the Lightning, which
extended the program’s first postseason into the second round.
Estancia girls standout Trisha Wase, the Co-MVP in the Golden West
League after leading the Eagles to the league crown, is a Division
III-A pick. Wase, a junior, averaged 12.3 points to help Estancia
finish 17-9.
Wright, a 6-1 freshman, averaged a team-high 12.5 ppg to help the
Lightning girls advance to the second round of the CIF Division IV-A
Playoffs.
