Oseguera, former Marina standout, leads Cal soccer

Michael Oseguera, a former All-CIF Division player at Marina High,

got his first opportunity in goal last weekend as a member of the Cal

Berkeley men’s soccer team.

In his first start, Oseguera, a sophomore, came up with three

saves and the 21st-ranked Bears rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score a

3-1 victory over the San Francisco Dons.

The following day, Oseguera recorded seven saves and registered

his first shutout in goal as Cal fought No. 6 ranked Santa Clara to a

scoreless tie.

Golden West Water Polo Club takes registration

Golden West Water Polo Club continues to take registration for

youth and high school-aged girls at three area sites.

Youth registration is open to girls grades two through eight and

practices for the fall season, which runs between Sept. 8 and Nov.

13, will be held at Marina and Fountain Valley highs as well as

Golden West College.

Registration for high school-aged girls is for grades nine through

12. Practices for the fall season, which runs through Nov. 13, will

be held at Golden West College.

National Junior Basketball seeks game officials

National Junior Basketball is seeking qualified individuals to

serve as basketball officials for the upcoming 2003-04 season.

Entry-level high school students, with a minimum age of 16,

experienced high school, college, recreation or youth league

officials are eligible to officiate.

NJB teams play throughout the season in youth leagues in most

local cities but applicants would referee in their local area.

In addition, NJB has All-Net/Travel teams which play on a

year-round basis and host more than 25 tournaments throughout

Southern California during the year.

NJB provides officials training with a national advanced clinic

and a local referee clinic conducted by college officials and

evaluators.
