BREAKING NEWS:

Police have identified the woman whose body was found stabbed and wrapped in a blanket Wednesday afternoon near the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

Capt. Dan Johnson of the Huntington Beach Police Department said the woman was Barbara Anne Mullenix, 56, who lived in a Huntington Beach condominium with her ex-husband and 17-year-old daughter. Police have no suspect in the slaying.

Mullenix’s body was found floating between a dock and a boat shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnson would not specify how many times Mullenix had been stabbed, but said it was possible that she had been dead for a while before her body went into the water.

“It’s hard to say,” he said. “It could have been up to two days before that.”

The Newport Harbor Yacht Club remained open after the body was found on Wednesday, but the club’s website posted a message expressing condolences to Mullenix’s family.
